Computer Requirements

All incoming students are required to have a laptop computer. It is recommended that you have a laptop with the following specifications:

Apple: Any Mac Book or Mac Book Pro model will meet the recommended requirements.

PC: Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or Vista, 1.8Ghz dual core processor, 2GB RAM (1GB minimum), CD/DVD optical drive, 120 GB hard drive, wireless B/G, 10/100 Ethernet port, up-to-date antivirus software. A minimum of a 13” screen is recommended. Tablet functionality is not required but many students find it useful.

It is highly recommended that all students use some method of regular back-up (such as an external hard drive.)

All computers should have Microsoft Office 2007 (Office 2008 for Macs) installed, or 2003 with the Compatibility Pack; alternative office suites are not recommended.

Additionally, the following are suggested: Minimum 1 GB flash drive, a laser or inkjet printer (printing services are available on campus for a small fee), and a surge protector, all of which are available for purchase in St. Maarten. If you bring a printer from home you should also bring spare ink cartridges as not all makes and models are supported on the island.

Apple, Dell and HP have certified service technicians on the island. There is limited support for other makes. Bring any restore software included with your computer in case of problems.
