Academic Skills Counseling

An academic skills counselor is available to assist students maximize their academic performance. The counselor offers support and guidance with study-related matters. Students may utilize this valuable service to improve their study skills, learning strategies and test-taking performance.

Anatomy Teaching Assistants (TA’s)

The Anatomy teaching assistants are a select group of students who excelled in Anatomy during their 1st semester and were individually chosen by department faculty to participate in the TA program. The TA’s volunteer their time because they enjoy the subject material and want to teach others. They provide a valuable service to first year students.

Books & Equipment

As an added convenience, AUC offers a virtual bookstore to Medical Sciences students via UniversityBooksOnline.com. Prior to arriving on the island, students are able to order all of their textbooks and equipment on-line (via a link from the AUC Web site). Supplies may be shipped to a private residence or directly to the campus in a guaranteed three to five day delivery period. All AUC students receive a special discount when utilizing this service.

Consultations

At AUC, students will benefit from the low student-teacher ratio by developing a closer rapport with faculty. AUC faculty are prepared to assist those who require additional help or merely wish further discussion on a course topic. All professors are readily available for individual consultation with students in their offices during posted office hours.

Housing Resident Advisors (RA’s)

Resident Advisors (RA’s) are fourth and fifth semester students who serve as facilitators and mentors to incoming students who live on-campus. The RA assists students with settling into the dormitory as well as offers information and advice about school-related matters. Additionally, the RA informs students about services and facilities available in the local community.

Note Service

Note Service functions as the campus copy and supply center by reproducing and distributing professors’ lecture notes. Note Service is not a bookstore.

Orientation Advisors (OA’s)

Each first semester student is assigned an Orientation Advisor (OA) prior to arriving on St. Maarten. The OA is a fifth semester student who shares insight about living on St. Maarten, best study techniques, what to expect during the first semester, and other topics of interest to incoming students.

Tutoring Services

AUC offers a tutorial service for students who need additional after-hours assistance with Anatomy and Biochemistry.

Wellness Counseling

Wellness counseling is available to help students achieve and maintain balance in life during medical school. Services include individual, group and family counseling; assessment and referral; preventative education and crisis intervention.
