Celebrating 30 Years
Dear friends of American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine,
On behalf of all the Deans at AUC, I would like to welcome you to celebrate our 30th anniversary. From the enlightened vision of our founder grew an institution of higher education that is now established as a reputable international medical school. An M.D. degree from AUC is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and in all 50 states as being comparable to a United States M.D. degree.
We have recently doubled our Basic Medical Sciences faculty, substantially increased our core clerkship numbers, and are increasing and updating the resources and facilities on St. Maarten. Our most recently admitted classes have had the highest MCAT and GPA scores in the history of AUC. From our modest start on the Island of Montserrat to our flagship educational campus on the Island of St. Maarten, we have now graduated over 4,000 competent physicians.
Our current graduates enter into some of the most prestigious residency positions in the United States at major hospitals including the NYU Medical Center in New York, Kaiser Permanente in California and Providence Hospital in Michigan. Our alumni have become leaders in their field, such as Dr. Shukri David, Chief of the Department of Cardiology at a major teaching hospital and Dr. Roger Gonda Jr., Chair of a Department of Radiology and leader of a large radiology group serving multiple hospitals.
AUC is also a founding member of IVIMEDS – an international consortium of prestigious medical schools, including Brown and the University of Miami, leading the charge to advance web-based medical education curriculum. Our Basic Medical Sciences Dean was a dean of a U.S. medical school for over 20 years and has represented AUC at many international conferences. Our Board of Directors represent the best educators from the United States and Europe, including prior Deans from medical schools in both the United States and England.
Such a strong commitment to delivering an excellent medical education program deserves to be celebrated. AUC is the best international medical school located in the Caribbean and will only get better as the years go on.
Sincerely,
Dr. Bruce Kaplan
Dean of Clinical Sciences
American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine
