Dr. Schnatz received his undergraduate degree in Biology at Princeton University and his M.D. at the University of Buffalo School of Medicine in 1961. After an internship year at the University Hospital in Seattle, he completed his residency in Ob/Gyn at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1966 and followed that with a fellowship in Endocrinology at the Buffalo General Hospital. From 1967 – 69, Dr. Schnatz completed his military service at Fort George G. Meade, MD.

In 1969 Dr. Schnatz moved to Cleveland and joined the faculty at Case Western Reserve University working his way up from an instructor of Ob/Gyn in the Department of Reproductive Biology, to full Professor in 1990. He had appointments at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital, University Hospitals of Cleveland, and Case Western Reserve University where he was the acting Director of Ob/Gyn and acting Chairman of Reproductive Biology on two occasions for a total four years. In addition to a private practice, he was involved in medical school teaching at both basic science and clinical levels and in resident teaching.
