Clinical Information

After AUC students leave the Basic Medical Sciences campus on St. Maarten and pass the USMLE Step 1, they advance to the clinical portion of the medical education program. Clinical rotations are 72 weeks in duration and can be scheduled at one hospital or many hospitals throughout the process. Clinical weeks are separated into Core Clerkships and Elective Clerkships.

Core Clerkships are the foundation of the student’s clinical education framework. They include Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Psychiatry. To ensure that AUC graduates meet current state licensure requirements, they must also take Family Medicine and Neurology. Elective Clerkships allow students the opportunity to gain experience in areas they may choose to specialize in later during residency. Students may choose from hospitals across the United States, England and/or Ireland to experience their clinical education.
