Graduation Requirements

  • Successful completion of all courses in the Basic Medical Sciences curriculum.
  • A passing score on the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) Step 1.*
  • A passing score on the USMLE Step 2 CS & CK (effective only for students matriculating in May 2006 or thereafter).*

    *Note regarding USMLE exams: Students must submit all USMLE scores, pass or fail, along with their Performance Profile section (both sides) for all exam results to Silvia Sanchez via fax (786-228-3004) or e-mail ssanchez@aucmed.edu.
  • Successful completion of the required clinical clerkships, consisting of core and elective clerkships for a total of 72 weeks, as dictated by the Clinical Science Curriculum.

  • A passing score on all five (5) written core subject exams for core clerkships: Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and OB/GYN (they are NBME administered exams).** The dates for the NBME core subject exams are listed in the Clinical Clerkships section of this Web site, on the Core Rotations drop-down tab.

    **Note regarding final grades: Core clerkship FINAL GRADE is a combination of the core rotation grade and the core subject exam grade. Students will receive a Superior on the rotation and an honors grade on the core examination (effective if graduated before 7/1/09) or a passing grade on the core examination (if graduating after 7/1/09). For elective rotations, an Honors grade is awarded if the student receives an Above Average or Superior evaluation from his or her rotation attending/preceptor.
  • Submission of Case Logs for both core and elective clerkships (students are expected to keep diligent records regarding patients seen each day and/or duties performed during rotations).
  • Submission of Form 173 (from ECFMG) and AUC Authorization to Release Form . These two forms are releases that allow AUC to request your USMLE transcript from ECFMG.
  • If you received financial aid while you were attending AUC, you are required to complete the Financial Aid Online Exit Counseling Session. This form must be completed no earlier than 90 days from your graduation date. This means that if you are graduating on April 4, 2009, the earliest you can complete the form is on January 4, 2009. Any questions regarding the financial aid online exit counseling session should be referred to the Financial Aid Office at finaid@aucmed.edu.
  • Graduation fee payment of $200, regardless of ceremony participation. The fee can be paid by check made payable to “American University of the Caribbean” or by credit card using the AUC Credit Card Authorization Form.
  • Payment of all fees and charges owed to the University. Any questions regarding your financial standing should be referred to Loida Cabrera in Student accounts at lcabrera@aucmed.edu.
  • Completion of a Graduation Application.

ECFMG Certification & Special Graduation Dates

PLEASE NOTE: Degrees will be mailed to the graduate once the graduate is academically and financially cleared. Without exception, all above requirements must be met and all clerkship evaluations, case logs and required forms must have been received. Degrees are mailed to all graduates regardless of ceremony participation.
