Need to Know

Important Dates, Deadlines, and Clinical Resources

1. Canvas is Coming!

At AUC, we understand the growing role of technology in delivering and enhancing your medical education. That’s why we made it a priority this year to research, test, and secure a Learning Management System (LMS) that will support AUC students across both the medical and clinical sciences.

Beginning January 1, 2018, clinical students will be given access to Canvas, a comprehensive online learning system that replaces your eCollege platform. Canvas will serve as the major hub for course information and objectives, required clerkship activities, online resources, university policies and procedures, and the library portal. In a nutshell, you can use it to access important clinical and academic resources as you move through your clinical rotations.

The Canvas launch will seamlessly align with important changes to our clinical sciences curriculum, which include updates to AUC’s clerkship resources and requirements.

While clinical students will begin using Canvas in January, our plan is to transition medical sciences students from Blackboard to Canvas later in 2018. By 2019, we will have one fully-integrated LMS for all students.

More information, including training webinars and log-in instructions, will be forthcoming.

2. Upcoming Clinical Skills Assessment Dates

Are you preparing for the United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE) Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) exam? As an AUC student, you have complimentary access to Becker Professional Education’s Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA) program. This in-person workshop helps students prepare for Step 2 CS through standardized patient encounters, communication skills, focused history, and patient notes.

We are now pleased to offer CSA to clinical students rotating in the UK. The program is currently available in Chicago, Detroit, Miramar, New York City, Washington, DC, and Chichester.

4. Count Down to MATCH

Match Day 2018 will be here in just four months! As match madness draws close and interview season ramps up, be sure to utilize the Office of Student and Professional Development (OSPD) for guidelines, tips, and up-to-the-minute information. A suite of helpful information is posted on the OSPD webpage, including:

Fourth-year students can also connect with an AUC's Physician Match Advisor (PMA) for individualized residency guidance. PMAs are available to discuss questions related to specialties, residency program competitiveness, match strategies, and interview preparation. All PMAs hold MD degrees and are well versed in the residency match process. To request a PMA, fill out the Office of Student and Professional Development's (OSPD) online form.

And for a deeper look at AUC graduates’ residency performance, read the newly released 2017 Residency Report. In it, we break down AUC's 2017 residency attainment rate for first attempts (84.4%) and the specialties and programs where AUC graduates earned PGY-1 and PGY-2 positions.
