HIV Screening Committee of AUC Volunteers at HIV Testing Day

October 4, 2012

Over the years The HIV Screening Committee of AUC has worked with the St. Maarten AIDS Foundation to organize free community HIV testing days. This year, 45 student volunteers tested 146 people at the Charles Leopold Bell School in Cole Bay.

Anita Pabani, fourth semester student at AUC became involved with the St Maarten AIDS Foundation as a student volunteer and then as student coordinator. She said, “My previous work with sexual abuse and rape survivors encouraged interested in helping the community in St. Maarten through HIV awareness and counseling.”

Prior to the event, AUC students were trained as testers and counselors by the St. Maarten AIDS Foundation founder, Dr. Gerard Van Osch and his colleagues.
