Nancy Conley, M.D. (‘03), who owns a Family and Integrated Medicine practice in Reno, Nev., will explain the virtues of her combined practice during a Beyond Basic Sciences workshop on Thursday, July 29.
Dr. Conley is the latest AUC graduate to participate in the BBS lecture series, a program which allows graduates who return to St.Maarten, to share their experience with current students.
She is excited about her return to AUC and the opportunity to offer advice and guidance to students.
“I love family medicine and the incorporation of an integrated approach has increased my satisfaction and ability to care for my patients,’’ says Conley whose workshop will also include an Acupuncture demo.
“I believe in mind-body-spirit wellness and observe the best outcomes for patients when we utilize a balance of east-west medical approaches,’’ added Conley.
Her goal when speaking with the students, will be to “broaden their way of thinking clinically’’ and to help them “recognize the importance of being well informed about these modalities due to increasing patient demand.’’
Originally from Southern California, Dr. Conley fell in love with the Reno, Nev., area during her residency at the University of Nevada and has made it her home for the last seven years. She did her undergraduate studies at the University of California Santa Cruz but transferred and graduated with honors in Kinesiology/Exercise Physiology from UCLA.
After graduation, she earned hands-on experience by operating a glass and metal art work company she owned with her husband.
In the late 1990s she returned to her passion for healing arts and sciences and enrolled at AUC. She did her clinical rotations in England, California and Arizona. She has always had an interest in Integrated Medicine and it peaked during residency. One of her attending doctors was an Acupuncturist.
A personal experience with the merits of the practice soon confirmed her decision to pursue that passion.
“My husband had some profound personal medical experiences that were better addressed through homeopathy than Allopathic medicine,’’ said Conley.
She subsequently trained under Joseph Helms, M.D via UCLA’s post graduate programs and became certified in Medical Acupuncture. She also studies Chinese Herbal therapies.
