Student Organizations
Students at AUC are an exceptionally active group of people, inside and outside of the classroom. There are many student groups to get involved with that will broaden your horizons and make you more aware of other people’s cultural and social backgrounds. We encourage you to explore your options by joining a student organization. Wherever your interests lie, AUC offers the resources to accommodate them.
Student Government Association (SGA)
SGA works closely with the administration at AUC to address student needs and issues. The organization serves as the interface between the student body and the faculty. In its role as the governing body, the SGA oversees all other student organizations.
Alpha Omega Phi Honor & Service Society
Alpha Omega Phi is designed to encourage and recognize high standards of education, character, morality and conduct befitting the field of science. Members, who are in the top 25% of their class, are inducted at the beginning of their fifth semester and must exhibit qualities of leadership, excellence and dedication to the community.
American Medical Student Association (AMSA)
AMSA provides health programs for the community and gives members the opportunity to gain hands-on medical experience. For example, AMSA offers monthly diabetes screenings free of charge and clinical workshops that focus on perfecting basic clinical skills.
American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA)
The American Medical Women’s Association is an organization consisting of over 10,000 physicians and medical students dedicated to improving women’s health and the advancement of women in medicine. For over 90 years, AMWA has taken an active role in addressing issues regarding women’s health. Events sponsored by the AMWA include a mentorship program, various lecture series and community outreach programs.
Christian Medical and Dental Association (CMDA)
CMDA functions as a network for information, training and fellowship, in an effort to integrate faith into the practice of medicine. The national organization offers mission opportunities as well as mentor match programs during residency. The AUC chapter provides ethical and current event symposiums, community service activities and social events.
Jewish Medical Students Association (JMSA)
JMSA functions to unite all students (of Jewish and other faiths) at AUC by bringing Jewish awareness to campus. We are actively involved in promoting community service on the island by participating in "Let's Talk About AIDS, St. Maarten Cares" with the campus and local community. In addition, JMSA members participate in social gatherings, holiday celebrations and activities that serve to educate AUC students on the integration between medical and Jewish religious values.
Muslim Student Association (MSA)
The Muslim Student Association was established to serve the best interests of Islam and students on the AUC campus. The organization strives to meet the needs of Muslim and all interested students by educating them on Islamic customs and values. Additionally, MSA performs community-based projects and programs to enrich Islamic understanding, including informative movie nights and seminars.
Phi Chi Medical Fraternity
With over 100 years of tradition, Phi Chi is regarded as a professional organization that holds academic achievement in high regard. The AUC chapter offers its members forums, community service opportunities and academic resources. Workshops are offered in areas of suturing, intubation, IV’s and venipuncture.
Student National Medical Association ( SNMA)
SNMA assembles and organizes individuals of multicultural backgrounds for the purpose of bridging health care disparities. The goals of this newly founded chapter are to address health care issues faced by underrepresented populations, raise awareness of the rapidly evolving world of information in health care, and to promote an increase in the levels of minority student recruitment and retention in medical schools.
