Wellness Counseling

Supporting the well-being of international medical students

American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) offers wellness counseling services to assist students in managing issues related to their well-being. Such concerns may include:

  • Homesickness
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Relationship issues
  • Difficulties with cultural adjustment
  • Grief/loss
  • Academic concerns

Wellness counseling records are kept separate from academic records, and information from sessions is not accessible to AUC personnel or others. Students are provided with a confidentiality form at the first meeting, at which the Wellness Counselor will explain the policy and answer questions.

Wellness Counseling Services to Students

The Wellness Counselor will work with every international medical student individually to assess the type of help required. Please note that a medical referral may be necessary for some services. The Counselor’s office contains a library of information on a variety of topics including stress management, test anxiety, depression, and cultural adjustment.
