SGA works closely with the administration at AUC to address student needs and issues. The organization serves as the interface between the student body and the faculty. Alpha Omega Phi Honor & Service Society Alpha Omega Phi is designed to encourage and recognize high standards of education, character, morality, and conduct befitting the field of science. Members, who are in the top 25% of their class, are inducted at the beginning of their fifth semester and must exhibit qualities of leadership, excellence, and dedication to the community. American Medical Student Association (AMSA) AMSA provides health care programs for the community and gives members the opportunity to gain hands-on medical experience. For example, AMSA offers monthly Diabetes screenings free of charge and clinical workshops that focus on perfecting basic clinical skills. Contact: Brittany Stam, President, at bristam@aucmed.edu.
American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) The American Medical Women’s Association is an organization consisting of over 10,000 physicians and medical students dedicated to improving women’s health and the advancement of women in medicine. For over 90 years, AMWA has taken an active role in addressing issues regarding women’s health. Events sponsored by AMWA include a mentorship program; various lecture series, and community outreach programs. Contact: Mary Romero, President, at marromero@aucmed.edu.
Christian Medical and Dental Association (CMDA) The Christian Medical and Dental Association, founded more than seventy years ago, functions as a network for information, training, and fellowship, in an effort to integrate faith into the practice of medicine. The national organization offers mission opportunities as well as mentor match programs during residency. The AUC chapter provides an opportunity for community service events, ethical and current event symposiums, as well as social events. For more information, please e-mail auccmda@hotmail.com.
Muslim Student Association (MSA) The Muslim Student Association was established to serve the best interests of Islam and students on the AUC campus. The organization strives to meet the needs of Muslim and all interested students by educating them on Islamic customs and values. Additionally, MSA performs community-based projects and programs to enrich Islamic understanding including informative movie nights and seminars. Contact: Sami Ali, President, at samali@aucmed.edu.
Phi Chi Medical Fraternity With over 100 years of tradition, Phi Chi is regarded as a professional organization that holds academic achievement in high regard. The AUC chapter offers its members forums, community service opportunities and academic resources. Workshops are offered in areas of suturing, intubation, IV’s, and venipuncture. Student National Medical Association (SNMA) SNMA assembles and organizes individuals of multicultural backgrounds for the purpose of bridging healthcare disparities. The goals of this newly founded chapter are to: address healthcare issues faced by underrepresented populations, raise awareness of the rapidly evolving world of information in healthcare, and promote an increase in the levels of minority student recruitment and retention in medical schools.
