Celebrating our graduates as newly minted physicians

AUC looks forward to celebrating our 2019 graduating physicians on achieving their MD degree. Commencement will be held in Miami, Florida at the University of Miami's Watsco Center. This venue will bring together all 2019 graduates for one ceremony and will provide ample space for guests.

**All August/October/December 2018 and February/April/May/June 2019 graduates are invited to participate in the graduation ceremony held on Saturday, May 18, 2019

June grads please note: You must graduate by June 1, 2019 in order to participate in the ceremony on May 18, 2019.  If you rotate past the June 1st grad date you will roll over to graduation on August 2019 and will be invited to the graduation ceremony in 2020.

The May 18, 2019 date is ONLY for the ceremony, it is not an actual graduation date. Your official graduation date is the “Expected Grad Date” listed on your student summary.  All diplomas are MAILED to the graduate once they are cleared.  

  • Livestream Details

    AUC will be broadcasting the Commencement ceremony. If you have friends or family who would like to watch from afar, please tell them to visit our YouTube or Facebook page beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 18. The live feed will automatically show up at that time. Videos will be archived on both channels for later viewing.

  • Keynote Speaker

    We are pleased to announce Dr. Shlee Song, Director of the Stroke Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and 2003 graduate of AUC, as the 2019 commencement speaker. 

    As the Director of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center's Stroke Center in Los Angeles, California, Dr. Song oversees one of the busiest stroke centers in the country. She has been with the center for seven years and has worked on numerous steering committees in addition to serving as Principal Investigator (PI) on multiple national and international multicenter clinical trials.The most recent phase II NIH stroke trial published in Annals of Neurology used a protocol she developed with leaders in stroke clinical research at NIH and MGH.

    Dr. Song also works on stroke secondary prevention trials in coordination with PIs in Los Angeles County at USC and UCLA. She serves as Medical Director of Stroke Programs at Torrance Memorial and Marina del Rey hospital, affiliate sites of Cedars-Sinai, and has developed a telemedicine network that delivers acute stroke care and recanalization treatment for eligible patients at the network hospitals.

    As the previous program director for the vascular neurology fellowship program at Cedars-Sinai, she has trained many stroke neurologists that practice in the Southern CA region. She continues her education role as the associate director of the residency program in the department of neurology, helping to train our next generation of neurologists.

    Dr. Song herself completed her neurology residency at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC before conducting a clinical fellowship and stroke research at the National Institute of Health in Maryland, which is the nation’s medical research agency, and one of the world’s foremost medical research centers. 

  • Ordering Regalia

    Participating graduates must order their own regalia, including a gown, hood, tam and tassel by April 23, 2019. To place your order, visit and type in "American University of the Caribbean." Be ready to indicate the year of your graduate date (not the year of the ceremony). All regalia will be mailed directly to your desired address and you are responsible for bringing it to the ceremony.

  • Model Release Form

    All graduates must submit a signed AUC Model Release Form in order to participate in group photos.
