White Coat Ceremony

A tradition to welcome incoming MD students to American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine and the medical profession.

The White Coat Ceremony is a time-honored event that marks the official entrance of matriculating AUC students into medical school and the medical profession. In the presence of family and friends, students receive their first white coat—a symbol of bestowed trust to carry on the tradition of doctoring.

  • Keynote Speaker

We are pleased to have Dr. Ali Alikhani serve as the ceremony keynote speaker.

A 2013 graduate of AUC, Dr. Ali Alikhani completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Tennessee, Memphis and a prestigious Interventional Radiology fellowship at Brown University in Providence, RI. He has recently joined the Association of Alexandria Radiologists, PC in the Washington DC metro area as an interventional radiologist.

Dr. Alikhani grew up in the Washington DC area. After college, he worked in sales and marketing for a few years as an account executive for a tech company. Dr. Alikhani attended AUC in 2009, completed his classroom-based (medical sciences) learning and moved on to the 3rd and 4th year rotations in New York City; he graduated from AUC in 2013. During clinical rotations, he gravitated towards Interventional Radiology. Based on that mindset, he was able to secure a Diagnostic Radiology residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. During his residency, Dr. Alikhani tried to do as many IR rotations as possible to further focus on his desired future subspecialty.

After residency, Dr. Alikhani completed a Vascular and Interventional Radiology fellowship at Brown University in Providence, RI, where he was able to train with some of the best in the field and perform interventions that helped patients using state-of-the-art techniques and equipment. Some of the most life altering interventions included neuro interventions such as stroke thrombectomy, vertebroplasty, and carotid artery stenting. On the body side, they include cancer interventions, peripheral vascular disease, and trauma interventions.

Dr. Alikhani currently works for a private practice outside of DC called the Association of Alexandria Radiologists PC. As for extracurricular activities, he stays active with the Society of Interventional Radiology, where he previously led the Resident, Fellow and Student section as their president, and currently, serves on the board of directors of SIR Political Action Committee, where they focus on healthcare policy and the politics of medicine, as it pertains to Interventional Radiology.

"Medical school is not only a huge investment, but also a huge risk, that I and many like me took, but I bet on success, and was able to achieve it, both with AUC's tremendous support and my hard work. I met great friends along the way, ones that will always be close to me, and for that, I am also grateful. We all did it together, we did the long haul, the many hours, days, weeks, months and years to get to where we all are, and you all will too." - Dr. Ali Alikhani
