More than 200 students, colleagues, and friends set off from AUC School of Medicine’s Sint Maarten campus on Saturday, February 22, bound for multiple volunteer sites across the island.

When Julie Van Baardwijk first moved into her apartment near AUC School of Medicine’s St. Maarten campus, she only knew Eric Tharmathurai as her upstairs neighbor who enjoyed singing late into the night.

While packing his bags to face the unknown wasn’t entirely new for 2019 AUC graduate Dr. Arash Rahimi, pursuing his medical degree on the island Sint Maarten certainly was.

As the holiday season approached this year, the AUC community gave back in big ways. In Sint Maarten, the AUC campus hosted two donation drives: one benefiting food banks around the island and a second for orphanaged children.

Dr. Lawson Montgomery has come a long way (literally) from the small Kansas town of Bennington to graduating from American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine.

From performing on Broadway to medical school in the Caribbean, the path of Molly Kallins’ MD was anything but traditional. We sat down with the 2018 graduate for advice on finding the perfect fit in a medical school, what life was like in Sint Maarten, and how AUC School of Medicine impacted her personal and professional life.

Our Sint Maarten campus gathered in the Courtyard this afternoon to celebrate Veterans Day and honor those who have served. Though Veterans Day was officially observed on November 11th, the event was an opportunity for those who had Monday off to thank our veteran students and staff.

What was it like growing up in Nigeria? My childhood was great! Enugu is a beautiful, industrious and progressive city in southeastern Nigeria. I grew up with four siblings who are still my best friends today, so there was never a dull moment!

As a medical school, we are focused on teaching students how to care for their future patients. But equally important is helping our students and our community learn how to care for their own health, both physical and emotional.
