New Student Orientation

It is our pleasure to welcome you to American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine for the September 2018 semester. Your first week at AUC is all about exploring our campus and facilities, getting to know your peers, and preparing for your courses. Our new student orientation will guide you through this process and help you settle into life as an AUC student. If you are a new, incoming student, please note that all orientation activities are mandatory unless stated otherwise.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 29, 2018

 

All Day: Airport Shuttle Transportation (Princess Juliana Airport)

  • After landing at St. Maarten’s Princess Juliana Airport, look for a member of our AUC welcome team. They will show you to our free shuttle service which goes from the airport to campus.

9:00 AM – 6:00 PM: On-Campus Housing Check-In (University Apartments, Ground Floor)

  • Students living on campus must check in with our housing team on the ground floor entrance of our University Apartments. Resident Advisors will be available to help situate you and answer any questions.

5:00 PM – 6:00 PM: Campus Tour* (Rotunda, Building 1)

  • Students and their guests are invited to join our Orientation Advisors for a tour of campus.

 

THURSDAY, AUGUST 30, 2018

  • Join our free shuttle to nearby ACE Hardware and Prime Cash and Carry where you can purchase home goods, tools, and groceries.

1:30 PM – 2:30 PM: Campus Tour* (Rotunda, Building 1)

  • Students and their guests are invited to join our Orientation Advisors for a tour of campus.

4:00 PM – 7:00 PM: Grocery Shuttle*  (Rotunda, Building 1)

  • Join our free shuttle to SuperU where you can purchase groceries.

5:00 PM – 6:00 PM: Campus and Neighborhood Tour* (Rotunda, Building 1)

  • Students and their guests are invited to join our Orientation Advisors for a tour of campus and nearby neighborhoods.  

 

FRIDAY, AUGUST 31, 2018

 

8:00 AM – 3:00 PM: Registration (Auditorium, Building 2)

  • Check-in with a member of our orientation team to receive your welcome packet, review policies and procedures, and verify your registration information. You will also receive your medical insurance card.

8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 1:00 PM: Information Technology Presentation (Lecture Hall 3, Building 1)

3:00 PM – 3:30 PM: Housing and Resident Advisors Presentation (Auditorium, Building 2)

3:30 PM – 4:00 PM: Safety and Security Presentation (Auditorium, Building 2)

4:00 PM – 7:00 PM: Grocery Shuttle* (Rotunda, Building 1)

  • Join our free shuttle to Cost-U-Less where you can purchase groceries.

8:30 PM – 10:00 PM: Student Social* (BBs Grill)

  • The Student Government Association invites students and their guests to a casual meet and greet at BBs Grill, located just outside of campus.

 

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2018

 

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Beach Hangout* (Mullet Bay Beach)

  • Students and their guests are invited to explore nearby Mullet Bay Beach and enjoy beach-related activities. We will meet in the Rotunda of Building 1 to walk to the beach as a group.

  • Special Interest Groups – Faculty Advisors
  • Drug and Alcohol Prevention Program – Dr. Scott Rinker, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs

10:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Breakfast (Auditorium, Building 2)

10:30 AM – 11:00 AM: Introduction to First Semester (Auditorium, Building 2)

  • Presentation by Dr. Charlotte Rhodes, Assistant Professor of Anatomy and First Semester Lead.

11:00 AM – 2:00 PM: Business Fair* (Courtyard, Building 1)

  • Meet local businesses and mobile and internet providers.

11:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Academic Support (Auditorium, Building 2)

  • Presentation by Lennon Bhagwandin, Director of Academic Support.

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM: Professionalism and Ethics (Auditorium, Building 2)

  • Incoming students will be required to take their reading quiz.

2:10 PM – 2:20 PM: Introduction to the Student Government Association (Auditorium, Building 2)

5:30 PM – 7:00 PM: White Coat Ceremony (Auditorium, Building 2)

  • Reception to follow at Porto Cupecoy Marina.

 

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2018

 

6:00 PM – 7:00 PM: Pet Owner Meet and Greet* (Barcode Grounds)

  • Students with pets are invited to a small meet and greet on the green area near Barcode restaurant, which is located just outside of the campus.
