*The 3-year first-time residency attainment rate is the weighted average of the 2022-23, through 2024-25 academic years. For each year, the rate is the percent of students attaining a residency out of all graduates or expected graduates in the year who were active applicants in the NRMP match in that year or who attained a residency outside the NRMP match in that year. The 1-year first-time residency attainment rate is 95% for 2024-2025 graduates.

Margaret Steele, MD, FRCPC, MEd, DFCPA, CCPE, FCAHS, ICD.D
Dr. Steele’s academic medicine career spans over 30 years as a distinguished leader in child and adolescent psychiatry as well as over 15 years of progressive decanal experience. She led the subspecialty application to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for child and adolescent psychiatry so that it became a recognized subspecialty. She served as the Vice Dean, Hospital and Interfaculty Relations at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario prior to becoming the first woman dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland (Memorial) in 2016. She also served as the Interim Provost and Vice-President (Academic) and Pro Vice-Chancellor at Memorial in 2022. In 2018, because of her significant contributions to medical education, research and science she was elected as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. Dr. Steele was named Professor Emerita at Western in 2019. In March 2025 she was awarded the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal by the Premier of Prince Edward Island for co-leading the development of a new innovative medical school program in Prince Edward Island. Dr. Steele was honored to receive an Honorary Diploma at Fanshawe College in June 2025 for her contributions to child and adolescent mental health. She is currently the lead advisor for the new School of Medicine at York University.
