AUC Names Incoming Clinical Chairs of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine

AUC is pleased to announce the appointments of Dr. Erika Regalado and Dr. Kaleem Rizvon as incoming Clinical Chairs for Pediatrics and Internal Medicine effective January 29, 2019.

Erika Regalado, MD, is an attending pediatrician at BronxCare Health System in Bronx, New York, where she also serves as the Pediatric Clerkship Site Director. For more than a decade, she has managed the pediatric clerkship program for medical students at BronxCare, including those from AUC. In addition to overseeing undergraduate medical education, she now directs the hospital’s Pediatric Residency program and is responsible for the educational curriculum as well as recruiting and mentoring new residents.

Dr. Regalado has long supported clinical training for AUC students. In addition to teaching and mentoring, she has participated in our Curriculum Review and Recommendations Task Force and the Curricular Mapping Committee, which aligns pediatric clerkship goals and objectives with ACGME residency competencies.

Kaleem Rizvon, MD, FACP, FACG, is the Chief of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the Director of Endoscopy at Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) in East Meadow, New York. He has formerly served as Associate Residency Program Director but his career with NUMC began in 1993 during his residency in Internal Medicine. Dr. Rizvon has authored several publications and book chapters and is often invited to speak with the media. He has received multiple Teacher of the Year awards and was honored last year with AUC’s Clinical Faculty Teaching Award among hundreds of clinical faculty. In addition to his clinical interests, Dr. Rizvon has taken on leadership roles developing his department’s undergraduate medical education program. He has served on national curriculum development projects and authored a core curriculum book for NUMC in 2001. In 2011, he was appointed the hospital’s Internal Medicine Clerkship Site Director for AUC students.

As incoming Clinical Chairs, Dr. Regalado and Dr. Rizvon will oversee AUC’s pediatrics and internal medicine clerkships. Working closely with other Clinical Chairs and Clinical Deans, each will be responsible for reviewing their clerkship curriculum and ensuring that AUC students receive quality clinical training and preparation.

AUC would like to thank our outgoing Clinical Chairs, Dr. Manny Agah and Dr. Howard Schubiner, for their years of service and leadership driving programs and initiatives that strengthened the clinical experience for AUC students. Both were critical to developing our pediatric and internal medicine clerkship curriculums and have been an integral part of recent curriculum redesign projects. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with them in the future.
