The one-year fellowship is designed for family physicians interested in a department chair position and was created to develop an effective pipeline for family medicine department chairs.
An assistant clinical professor at the University of California Riverside School of Medicine, Dr. Kim is dedicated to developing and expanding primary care in the Coachella Valley. She is the founding and current program director of the UCR family medicine residency program in Palm Springs, CA, which welcomed its first cohort of residents in 2015.
The residency program grew out of a need to address the significant physician shortage in the Coachella Valley. In some parts of the region, doctors are so scarce that there is only one for every 9,000 residents.
In addition, Dr. Kim has obtained multiple Song-Brown Health Care grants to improve health care access and increase the number of family physicians to provide medical services to the medically underserved in California. Her focus is to assess and serve the needs of the community by promoting prevention, health, and wellness.
Prior to joining the UCR School of Medicine faculty in 2013, Dr. Kim spent 10 years practicing medicine in Texas. While in Texas, she was senior staff physician for family medicine and clinical assistant professor at the Texas A&M College of Medicine and served as associate program director for the Scott & White Family Medicine Residency Program.
Dr. Kim graduated from AUC in 2003 and completed her residency at the Texas A&M School of Medicine – Scott & White Hospital, where she served as chief resident.
