Dr. Cecil W. Cone, II, was recently appointed Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Sint Maarten Campus, a new leadership position in which Dr. Cone will oversee all diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts that support AUC students, faculty, and staff.
The Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion position was developed with the primary goal of creating and sustaining a vibrant learning and working environment that is welcoming and supportive of all. Collaborating with leadership at AUC and Adtalem Global Education, AUC’s parent organization, Dr. Cone will further envision, strategize, advocate and implement measurable actions that lead toward greater diversity, equity, and inclusion at our university.
Dr. Cone joined AUC in 2015 as Chair of Pathology. He subsequently became Course Director of Pathology I and II and was named the Semester 3 Lead in 2018. Currently, Dr. Cone serves as the co-chair of the Racial Equality and Social Justice Taskforce and as leader of the D&I and Social Justice Thread of the new curriculum. His diversity and inclusion efforts in these roles have greatly benefitted our university, as has his ability to foster deep relationships with students and faculty through various interest groups and faculty committees. Dr. Cone is a charismatic and engaging educator who always makes it a priority to advocate for his students and colleagues. As a faculty advisor, he thrives off students’ enthusiasm for learning and actively supports their medical journey.
In this new role, Dr. Cone will expand on his support of our community through the implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion related resources, policies and protocols. He will participate in faculty and staff recruitment and coordinate programs in diversity, inclusion and justice training. He will also provide support for any student or colleague that reports concern regarding racial discrimination or harassment. As we continue to be guided by our Social Justice Commitments, Dr. Cone’s leadership in these areas will play a key role as we aim to eradicate equity gaps in participation and achievement.
We greatly appreciate Dr. Cone’s influence at AUC and look forward to his service as the liaison and representative of AUC’s diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments, while fulfilling his administrative duties and participation as a faculty member. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Cone on his new appointment.
