WATCH: Student Reconnects with Mentor, Class of ‘12 Grad at AUC

Sports neurologist Kate Essad, MD ’12 has been a mentor to student Patricia Henegan ever since they met at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where Dr. Essad was completing her residency and Patricia was conducting research on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

More than 16,000 psychiatrists and mental health professionals from around the world attended the 2018 American Psychiatric Association Annual Meeting in New York last month. And in the sea of 500 scientific sessions and workshops, fourth year students Nilesh Dialani and Varun Jain proudly presented their case presentation, Coprophagia – A Rare Psychiatric Symptoms and Possible Treatment Options.

AUC Research on St. Maarten Diabetes Presented

Fifth semester student, Chelsea Azevedo recently presented research at the 2018 International Health Congress at Oxford University. The project, “Risk Factors for Type 2 Diabetes in the Population of Sint Maarten” is headed by Clinical Medicine Professor Dr. Naira Chobanyan and includes a group of students led by third year student Mohamed Rafaat.

He was recently named one of ten AUC Student Experience Ambassadors, a position that allows him to chronicle his experiences during medical school at AUC. In this piece, Calderon explores the role of interfaith organizations in shaping medical students’ cultural awareness and sensitivity.
