Julie Scott Taylor, MD, MSc, is the Chief Academic Officer and Senior Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC). In this role, Dr. Taylor oversees academic affairs and student affairs on the St. Maarten campus and all clinical sites, manages accreditation and approval processes, and develops new programs. She assumed the role after three years as AUC's Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Sciences, where she oversaw strategies to enhance student competitiveness in the U.S. residency match.

Dr. Taylor, a family physician, joined AUC in 2014 from the Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where she served mostly recently as Director of Clinical Curriculum for the medical school, coordinating an integrated four-year program across specialties. She joined the Department of Family Medicine there in 2001 and served as the Family Medicine Clerkship Director (2001-2008) and Director of Predoctoral Education (2001-2010). Her academic interests include medical education and maternal-child health. She was the Principal Investigator of a 6-year Title 7 grant from HRSA to teach medical students about caring for underserved patients (2010-2016). She is the Past President of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, a worldwide organization of physicians dedicated to the promotion, protection, and support of breastfeeding and human lactation.

Dr. Taylor earned her undergraduate degree from Harvard College and her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She also holds a master’s degree in epidemiology and biostatistics from Boston University School of Public Health. She completed her residency training in family medicine at the Brown University-affiliated Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island in Pawtucket, RI and a 2-year faculty development fellowship at Boston University in Boston, MA. She lives and practices family medicine in Rhode Island.

AUC is accredited through 2021 by the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM, www.accredmed.org), which is the accreditor used by the country of St. Maarten. The United States Department of Education, via the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA), reviews the standards that countries use to accredit medical schools. The NCFMEA has determined that the ACCM's accreditation standards are comparable to those set by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), which accredits medical educational programs in the United States.
