*The 3-year first-time residency attainment rate is the weighted average of the 2022-23, through 2024-25 academic years. For each year, the rate is the percent of students attaining a residency out of all graduates or expected graduates in the year who were active applicants in the NRMP match in that year or who attained a residency outside the NRMP match in that year. The 1-year first-time residency attainment rate is 95% for 2024-2025 graduates.

Mark Abbott, PhD
Dr. Mark Abbott is an Assistant Professor of Applied Human Anatomy at AUC, where he teaches anatomy and histology across the preclinical curriculum, including Molecules to Medicine, Musculoskeletal & Dermatology, and Endocrine & Reproduction. He also serves as the module co-director for the Gastrointestinal and Nutrition module.
Dr. Abbott holds a PhD in Anatomy Education from The Ohio State University and an MS in Clinical Anatomy from Western University in Canada. He previously served as a Lecturer at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry and as a Clinical Anatomy Teaching Fellow at AUC, where he taught medical students through lectures, labs, and cadaveric dissection.
His work focuses on enhancing anatomy education through both traditional dissection-based teaching and the integration of innovative digital tools. His teaching approach includes 3D anatomy software, animated presentations, interactive e-learning platforms, and flashcard-based systems. He is the creator of the Comprehensive Cadaver Anki deck, a resource of over 6,000 questions covering gross anatomy and embryology for practical exam preparation. He also developed web-based interactive modules for anatomy and neuroanatomy that combine clinical correlates, multimedia, and board-style questions to support student learning.
Currently, Dr. Abbott is developing new educational resources, including 3D scans of cadaveric and plastinated specimens, photostacked high-resolution images for study tools, an Anki deck for histology, and an interactive cadaveric and radiological atlas. He also enjoys mentoring students interested in advanced dissections and hands-on exploration of human anatomy.
Dr. Abbott is a member of the American Association for Anatomy and the Human Anatomy & Physiology Society, where he presents research and leads workshops on simplifying anatomical visuals and making content more engaging and interactive. His teaching has been recognized through multiple awards, including Professor of the Semester at AUC.
