Miguel A. Rivera is a licensed mental health counselor at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in Sint Maarten. He comes with years of experience and expertise serving a variety of communities and populations—students included—who struggle with mental health and substance abuse. In his work, Miguel uses a holistic approach to wellness that focuses on avenues to identify and resolve dysfunctional thought patterns that can cause stress. He is certified in Mindfulness and holds a Board Certification as a Telemental Health Counselor, certified as a Wellness Coach, and is trained in QPR as a Suicide Prevention trainer. He has worked with different population including college students, veterans with PTSD, and the LGBTQ community.
Miguel comes from St. Petersburg, Florida where he worked for four years as a mental health counselor at the University of South Florida. Prior to that, he served as the director for student disability and counseling services at Daytona State College. Miguel received his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Temple University and his master’s in Psychology from Nova Southeastern University.
Outside of work, he enjoys exercise and healthcare. He participates in races in the US and on the island. He also enjoys spending time with family and friends.
