*The 3-year first-time residency attainment rate is the weighted average of the 2023-24, through 2025-26 academic years. For each year, the rate is the percent of students attaining a residency out of all graduates or expected graduates in the year who were active applicants in the NRMP match in that year or who attained a residency outside the NRMP match in that year. For 2025-26, the first-time residency attainment rate is over 98%.
Shamini Samuthiram, MBBS, PGDip
Assistant Professor
Dr. Shamini Samuthiram serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Medicine and Behavioral Sciences at the American University of the Caribbean (AUC), where she is currently the Module Co-Director for the Molecules to Medicine B module. Her role is centered around the clinical simulation program, where she facilitates hands-on learning and small-group instruction to bridge the gap between theory and practice. With over ten years of experience as a physician and educator, she integrates her clinical knowledge into her sessions. Before joining AUC she taught USMLE-based behavioral and clinical medicine at the Medical University of Americas during which she also served as Module Director for Clinical Skills module three. She holds a medical degree from ACS Medical college and hospitals which is part of Dr.MGR Educational and Research Institute and a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychiatry from the University of South Wales. Her background includes serving as a Junior Resident in psychiatry and as a Medical officer in an urban as well as rural health care facility, providing health awareness by conducting camps in the rural regions along with other primary health care workers before moving to the Caribbean to continue as an educator.
