Steve Thomson, PhD, is an assistant professor and lecturer in Medical Pharmacology at AUC School of Medicine's UK Track program. Dr. Thomson is a faculty member at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in Preston UK, where the program is delivered, and is responsible for planning and teaching all pharmacology course material. 

Dr. Thomson holds a bachelor’s of science degree in pharmacology from the University of Glasgow, UK and a PhD in cardiovascular pharmacology and physiology from the University of Leicester, UK. After completing his PhD, Dr. Thomson conducted medical research at the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. After completing a three year postdoctoral fellowship in Utah, Dr. Thomson moved to the University of Manchester, UK and then to Manchester Metropolitan University, UK to continue his postdoctoral research. Dr. Thomson’s research interests are in the areas of drug interactions with ion channels. Dr. Thomson has conducted research into why some drugs cause cardiac arrhythmias and the use of small molecule drugs to restore protein trafficking in inherited ion channel mutations that cause disease. 

Dr. Thomson returned to the University of Manchester as a lecturer in physiology and pharmacology, teaching a range of students across biomedical sciences, medicine and dentistry. In 2020, Dr. Thomson moved to UCLan to become the module leader for medical pharmacology on the UK Track. Dr. Thomson is a member of the British Pharmacological Society.
