Get Acquainted with AUC School of Medicine
Welcome to AUC School of Medicine!
It is our pleasure to welcome you to American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) family for the September 2024 semester. Your first week at AUC is all about exploring our resources, getting to know your peers, and preparing for your courses.
Orientation will include a mix of live and on-demand sessions (via AUC’s official Learning Management System, Canvas), with university leaders and representatives from key academic and student services departments. Take a moment to browse the full orientation schedule and test your Canvas account.
Participation in new student orientation activities is mandatory so make sure to test your system ahead of time. Should you experience any difficulties, please reach out to our IT support team at helpdesk@aucmed.edu for assistance.
Technology Requirements & Booklist
Below is an outline of required supplies, textbooks and technology requirements, use this as a guide to prepare for your upcoming classes in our interactive, virtual learning environment.
The White Coat Ceremony is a time-honored event that marks the official entrance of matriculating AUC students into medical school and the medical profession. In the presence of family and friends, students receive their first white coat—a symbol of bestowed trust to carry on the tradition of doctoring.
We have developed this Transition of Care Guide to make your move from your home to the island of Sint Maarten as smooth as possible. If you have previously received treatment for a mental health condition, there are several things you can do to continue to stay healthy throughout your journey in medical school. As you review this document, it’s also helpful to remember that many aspects can also be applied to other chronic or ongoing medical conditions.

AUC has organized several Orientation activities to acquaint you with the UCLAN Preston Campus, our AUC faculty, and the resources available to you. Our welcome team looks forward to guiding you through the process.
The items below are everything you will need to know and what to expect as you begin classes in a virtual learning environment.
In order to take remote, secure exams you may use either PC or a Mac laptop computer that meets the following requirements:

Apple: MacBook Pro or MacBook Air

Windows Laptop/ PC recommended hardware:

Processor: Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7

Memory: 4GB (8GB or higher preferred)

Storage: 128GB minimum (NOTE: you will have a 1TB Office 365 account free whilst at UCLan)

Touch: Integrated Touch Screen to get the best from some software

Camera and Sound: Integrated 720p HD camera, microphone and speakers (NOTE: camera and audio required for examinations and for online interactions)

WiFi: IEEE 802.11 compatible

Integrated mouse (preferred)

Ethernet enabled (preferred, not required)

Bluetooth Wireless enabled (preferred, not required)

Windows Operating system (NOTE: we will provide Office 365ProPlus to download)

Graphics card: Integrated or ATI Radeon or Intel® HD Graphics will improve computer software performance.
Other considerations: Plenty of USB ports, casting feature to TVs
Examples of laptop computers with this type of specification include Microsoft Surface Pro, Lenovo Thinkpad or equivalent
NOTE: Students cannot take our online assessments using iPads. It is important that every student can use the device for online examinations, and therefore considerations such as screen size should also be considered.
