American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) was a proud sponsor of Positive Foundation's Pink Walk, an annual event held in recognition of breast cancer survivors, warriors, and those who have lost the fight against breast cancer. This event was coordinated by AUC's Community Engagement Program, led by Natalie Humphrey, PhD, assistant dean of community engagement, and AUC's EDGE Chapter led by Melissa Harrison-Grinuva.
AUC colleagues, students and their families participated in the walk together with the local St. Maarten community, all decked in pink. The parade started at the University of St. Martin and made its way around Philipsburg.
The Positive Foundation, inaugurated in 1998, organizes a month-long, annual breast cancer awareness campaign in October. Activities include the Pink Walk, public service announcements via radio & TV called “Women and Breast Health”, and island-wide free clinical breast examination screenings and demonstrations.
