1 The 3-year first-time residency attainment rate is the weighted average of the 2022-23, through 2024-25 academic years. For each year, the rate is the percent of students attaining a residency out of all graduates or expected graduates in the year who were active applicants in the NRMP match in that year or who attained a residency outside the NRMP match in that year. The 1-year first-time residency attainment rate is 95% for 2024-2025 graduates.

2 First-time pass rate is the number of students passing the USMLE Step 1 exam on the first attempt divided by the number of students whose first attempt was in 2020-2024. In order to sit for the USMLE Step 1 exam students must successfully complete the Medical Sciences curriculum.

FAQ

We designed this FAQ to equip premed advisors like you with the tools and insights you need to help your students select a medical school. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, reach out to us anytime.

Is AUC accredited?

AUC is accredited by the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM), which is the accreditor recognized by the country of Sint Maarten.

Through the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA), the U.S. Department of Education assesses the standards employed by various nations to accredit medical schools. The NCFMEA has established that the ACCM’s accreditation standards are consistent with those established by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), the entity responsible for accrediting medical education programs within the United States. Consequently, the accreditation standards adhered to by AUC are comparable to the requirements for medical schools in the United States.

What are the minimum GPA and MCAT score requirements for admission?

AUC does not have a strict minimum GPA or MCAT score, but competitive applicants typically have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and an MCAT score of 500 or higher. We consider each application holistically, considering all aspects of a candidate’s profile. See more information here: Admission & Application.

What are the prerequisite courses for admission?

We require a set of prerequisite courses, including one year each of biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics, as well as one semester of calculus and one semester of English. Additional courses in biochemistry and psychology are recommended.

How selective is AUC’s admissions committee?

Medical school admissions requirements and standards vary widely. Unlike some Caribbean medical schools that don’t require the MCAT, AUC has rigorous standards. We evaluate the whole person—including life experience, maturity, and commitment—but we also closely examine undergraduate academic performance and MCAT scores. Our goal is to create a vibrant learning environment filled with bright, talented, and highly motivated students who have the potential to become excellent doctors.

What types of financial aid are available, and how can students apply for financial aid?

AUC offers a variety of financial aid options, including federal loans, private loans, and scholarships. Students can apply for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®).

Are there any scholarships, and what are the criteria for eligibility?

AUC offers medical school scholarships to recognize the academic excellence, volunteerism, and other achievements of your advisees. These scholarships are available to eligible applicants and are not transferable between institutions. Qualified students can receive substantial funding, often in the thousands of dollars. Our scholarship committee reviews and awards scholarships on a weekly basis.

What is the residency placement rate for graduates?

We’re thrilled to announce a 95% first-time residency attainment rate for AUC 2024–2025 graduates.1 Ensuring our students secure medical school residency placements is a top priority at AUC. Every year, our graduates apply to and are accepted into a wide range of postgraduate training programs across the United States and Canada.

1First-time residency attainment rate is the percent of students attaining a 2025–26 residency position out of all graduates or expected graduates in 2024–25 who were active applicants in the 2025 NRMP match or who attained a residency position outside the NRMP match.
