AUC School of Medicine Scholarships
AUC invites all aspiring medical students to explore and apply for the medical scholarships below, regardless of where you stand in the medical school enrollment process. Students may qualify for thousands of dollars worth of medical school scholarships, and our Scholarship Committee reviews and awards scholarships every week. Please refer to the Student Handbook for full scholarship details.
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
AUC offers medical school scholarships recognizing academic excellence, volunteerism, and other attributes. Available to those who apply and qualify.
ACADEMIC MERIT SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, which is equivalent to 1 semester worth of current tuition, is awarded to students who have a solid overall undergraduate GPA or MCAT score. This scholarship is automatically awarded to qualified, incoming first-semester AUC students only. (Note: Previously awarded amounts for current or accepted students will not change).
Eligibility Requirements (beginning in the May 2022 semester)
- Minimum undergraduate overall GPA of 3.00* or a minimum MCAT score of 490 (current version of the MCAT).
- Hold an offer of admission to AUC as a first-semester student
Award Details
- 1/10 will be awarded for each semester of enrollment of the MD program, during the first ten (10) semesters of enrollment, with a maximum lifetime value of one (1) semester’s tuition at the time of enrollment.
- In the event the total tuition assessed is less than the scheduled semester award amount of all eligible scholarships, the total semester award is prorated to match the total tuition assessed for the term. This does not impact the lifetime maximum of the scholarship, any remaining amount from the award would be carried forward until the lifetime maximum is met.

DEAN'S ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, which is equivalent to 2 semesters worth of current tuition, is awarded to students who have a solid overall undergraduate GPA or MCAT score. This scholarship is automatically awarded to qualified, incoming first-semester AUC students only. (Note: Previously awarded amounts for current or accepted students will not change).
Eligibility Requirements
- Minimum undergraduate overall GPA of 3.50* or a minimum MCAT score of 505 (current version of the MCAT).
- Hold an offer of admission to AUC as a first-semester student
Award Details
- 1/10 will be awarded for each semester of enrollment of the MD program, during the first ten (10) semesters of enrollment where tuition charges are applied in the semester, with a maximum lifetime value of two (2) semester’s tuition at the time of enrollment.
- In the event the total tuition assessed is less than the scheduled semester award amount of all eligible scholarships, the total semester award is prorated to match the total tuition assessed for the term. This does not impact the lifetime maximum of the scholarship, any remaining amount from the award would be carried forward until the lifetime maximum is met.

TRUSTEE'S ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, which is equivalent to 3 semesters worth of current tuition, is awarded to students who have a solid overall undergraduate GPA or MCAT score. This scholarship is automatically awarded to qualified, incoming first-semester AUC students only. (Note: Previously awarded amounts for current or accepted students will not change).
Eligibility Requirements
- Minimum undergraduate overall GPA of 3.70* or a minimum MCAT score of 510 (current version of the MCAT).
- Hold an offer of admission to AUC as a first-semester student
Award Details
- 1/10 will be awarded for each semester of enrollment of the MD program, typically the first ten (10) semesters of enrollment where tuition charges are applied in the semester, with a maximum lifetime value of three (3) semester’s tuition at the time of enrollment.
- In the event the total tuition assessed is less than the scheduled semester award amount of all eligible scholarships, the total semester award is prorated to match the total tuition assessed for the term. This does not impact the lifetime maximum of the scholarship, any remaining amount from the award would be carried forward until the lifetime maximum is met.

FIRST GENERATION SCHOLARSHIP FOR MEDICAL SCHOOL
This $50,000 scholarship is awarded to students who are striving to be first-generation physicians within their immediate families (includes spouse/partner, sibling, child by blood, adoption or marriage, grandparent, and grandchild).
Eligibility Requirements
- Incoming first-semester students and transfer students are eligible for this scholarship
- Hold an undergraduate degree (bachelor’s level)
- Complete the award application
- Personal essay (minimum of 500 words): How will the experience of being a first-generation physician within your immediate family impact the patients and communities you will ultimately serve? In addition, please share the educational and employment background of your immediate family.
- Applicants must hold an offer of admission to AUC for this scholarship to be awarded.
- If a transfer student is accepted, granted advanced standing, and scholarship-eligible, that student’s maximum award amount is dependent on his/her semester of placement, and the lifetime maximum award will be prorated.
Award Details
- $5,000 will be awarded for each semester of enrollment of the MD program, during the first ten (10) semesters of enrollment where tuition charges are applied in the semester, with a maximum lifetime value of $50,000.
- In the event the total tuition assessed is less than the scheduled semester award amount of all eligible scholarships, the total semester award is prorated to match the total tuition assessed for the term. This does not impact the lifetime maximum of the scholarship, any remaining amount from the award would be carried forward until the lifetime maximum is met.

MERP SUCCESS SCHOLARSHIP
At American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC), our curricula and philosophy are rooted in collaboration and community — and so are MERP’s. We also believe that accessible medical care starts with equitable access to medical education. That’s why AUC is proud to offer our MERP Success Scholarship to incoming students that have successfully completed the MERP program.
Eligibility Requirements
- Completion of MERP with a 70% grade or higher
- Matriculation to AUC for the MD program
Award Details
- Scholarship awards ranging from a lifetime maximum value of $18,500 to $55,000
- Actual award amount determined by MERP grade
- Allocation of scholarship money to be spread out evenly between the academic semesters 3-10 of the MD program
- In the event the total tuition assessed is less than the scheduled semester award amount of all eligible scholarships, the total semester award is prorated to match the total tuition assessed for the term. This does not impact the lifetime maximum of the scholarship, any remaining amount from the award would be carried forward until the lifetime maximum is met.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH AWARD
This scholarship has a lifetime value of up to $30,000. It is awarded to students who have shown exceptional dedication to their communities, hospitals, or charities. A $10,000 scholarship award is applied towards tuition costs for a maximum of 3 consecutive semesters.

Eligibility Requirements
- Incoming first-semester students and transfer students are eligible for this scholarship
- Hold an undergraduate degree (bachelor’s level)
- Complete the award application
- Personal statement, not to exceed 500 words, describing your participation in outreach activities, including communities, hospitals, charities, etc. The statement should describe why these activities are important to you and provide an in-depth description of one activity.
- Letter of recommendation from a community partner or leader who can attest to your commitment and involvement in community outreach activities
- Applicants must hold an offer of admission to AUC for the scholarship to be awarded
Award Details
- $10,000 will be awarded for each semester of enrollment of AUC’s MD program, across three (3) semesters of enrollment, where tuition charges are applied in the semester, with a maximum lifetime value of $30,000.
- In the event the total tuition assessed is less than the scheduled semester award amount of all eligible scholarships, the total semester award is prorated to match the total tuition assessed for the term. This does not impact the lifetime maximum of the scholarship, any remaining amount from the award would be carried forward until the lifetime maximum is met.

ALUMNI HERITAGE SCHOLARSHIP
Covering the full cost of tuition for first semester, this scholarship is awarded to students who have a work/volunteer history with an AUC graduate.
Eligibility Requirements
- Hold an undergraduate degree (bachelor’s level)
- 1 letter of recommendation from an AUC graduate, specifically outlining your involvement with the graduate
- Personal essay on the following topic: How has your experience with an AUC alumnus/alumna positively impacted your personal or professional development?
- Hold an offer of admission to AUC
- This scholarship is open to incoming students only

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP
A $10,000 scholarship awarded to qualified applicants who have graduated Mississippi College M.S. Biology (Medical Sciences) program split over the first two semesters of the MD program at AUC.
Eligibility Requirements
- Graduate of Mississippi College M.S. Biology (Medical Sciences) program
- Minimum of 3.0 GPA in at least 3 of the 5 medical courses outlined below in the M.S. Biology (Medical Sciences) program at Mississippi College.
- Human Gross Anatomy
- Medical Physiology
- Histology
- Human Neuroanatomy
- Human Embryology
- "Recommendation without reservation" letter from Program Director at Mississippi College’s M.S. Biology (Medical Sciences) program
- Hold an offer of admission to AUC
- This scholarship is open to incoming students only

MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR Australia and New Zealand CITIZENS
This $80,000 USD scholarship is awarded to qualified applicants who are Australian or New Zealand citizens or permanent residents of those countries.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent resident status
- Incoming first-semester students and transfer students are eligible for this scholarship
- Hold an undergraduate degree (bachelor’s level)
- Applicants must hold an offer of admission to AUC for the scholarship to be awarded
- If a transfer student is accepted, granted advanced standing, and scholarship-eligible, that student’s maximum award amount is dependent on his/her semester of placement and the lifetime maximum award will be prorated.

HOW TO QUALIFY
This scholarship will be awarded to qualified applicants during the enrollment process, after submission of a completed application to AUC.
MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR CANADIAN CITIZENS
This $80,000 USD scholarship is awarded to qualified applicants who are Canadian citizens. Dual citizens are not eligible.
Eligibility Requirements
- Canadian citizenship (Dual citizens are not eligible for the Canadian scholarship. )
- Incoming first-semester students and transfer students are eligible for this scholarship
- Hold an undergraduate degree (bachelor’s level)
- Applicants must hold an offer of admission to AUC for the scholarship to be awarded
- If a transfer student is accepted, granted advanced standing, and scholarship-eligible, that student’s maximum award amount is dependent on his/her semester of placement and the lifetime maximum award will be prorated.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
This $80,000 scholarship is awarded to applicants who are citizens or permanent residents of a country outside of the United States or Canada.
Eligibility Requirements
- This scholarship will only be awarded to citizens/permanent residents of countries outside the United States or Canada
- Students who hold dual US-Canadian citizenship are not eligible for this scholarship
- Incoming first-semester students and transfer students are eligible for this scholarship
- Hold an undergraduate degree (bachelor’s level)
- Applicants must hold an offer of admission to AUC for the scholarship to be awarded
- If a transfer student is accepted, granted advanced standing, and scholarship-eligible, that student’s maximum award amount is dependent on his/her semester of placement and the lifetime maximum value will be prorated.

Thompson Rivers University (TRU) Partner Scholarship
This one-time $7,500 scholarship is awarded to students who have graduated from Thompson Rivers University (TRU) within the last 5 years.
Eligibility Requirements
- Students must have graduated from TRU within the last five 5 years
- Hold an offer of admission to AUC as a first-semester student

- $7,500 scholarship is awarded for the first semester of enrollment at AUC

AUC/Sint Maarten Partnership Scholarship
This full tuition and administrative fees scholarship is awarded to qualified applicants who are citizens or permanent residents of St. Maarten. Up to four scholarships can be awarded per academic year and are awarded in the order of the applicant’s acceptance to AUC.
Eligibility Requirements
- Hold citizenship or permanent residency status in the country of St. Maarten.
- Incoming first-semester students and transfer students are eligible for this scholarship
- Hold an undergraduate degree (bachelor’s level)
- Applicants must hold an offer of admission to AUC for the scholarship to be awarded
- If a transfer student is accepted, granted advanced standing, and scholarship-eligible, that student’s maximum award amount is dependent on his/her semester of placement and the lifetime maximum award will be prorated.
Award Details
- The scholarship cover all tuition and administrative fees costs, so long as the recipients maintain satisfactory grades throughout their enrollment at AUC
- In the event the total tuition assessed is less than the scheduled semester award amount of all eligible scholarships, the total semester award is prorated to match total tuition assessed for the term. This does not impact the lifetime maximum of the scholarship, any remaining amount from the award would be carried forward until the lifetime maximum is met.

How to Qualify
This scholarship will be awarded to qualified applicants during the enrollment process, after submission of a completed application to AUC. The university will send scholarship application to eligible individuals.
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CURRENT STUDENTS
AUC offers scholarship awards for students currently enrolled in the medical sciences program. These scholarships were designed to assist students with funding for medical school while also recognizing attributes that are central to the AUC mission and culture. Available to those who apply and qualify.
SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY AWARD
The AUC Social Accountability Award recognizes students who have made contributions to the communities of St. Maarten during their medical sciences education.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a currently enrolled 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th semester student (UK Track students are not eligible)
- Complete the award application (see below)
- Personal essay (see below)

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AWARD
The AUC Student Engagement Award recognizes students whose activities as part of the campus community have helped to enhance and foster the AUC culture of collaboration.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a currently enrolled 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th semester student (UK Track students are not eligible)
