Sareesh Narayanan Naduvil, PhD
Sareesh Narayanan Naduvil, PhD is the Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in Physiology at AUC School of Medicine's UK Track program. Dr. Sareesh is on faculty at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in Preston UK, where the program is delivered. In this role, Dr. Sareesh provides Physiology education to the PGDip in International Medical Sciences students of the AUC UK-Track MD Program through medical cases, lectures, small group teaching and flipped classroom sessions.
He also functions as co-module lead for both Integrated Clinical Medicine 2 (ICM-6) module and Endocrinology & Reproduction (E&R) module. Dr. Sareesh is a dedicated, resourceful, and innovative associate professor with 15+ Years of experience in teaching, research, and administration to MBBS, BDS, B Pharm, and Paramedical students.
Dr. Sareesh is proficient in teaching all areas of Physiology, administering with the aim of imparting complete holistic education augmented by a strong knowledge base in problem-based learning (PBL), team-based learning (TBL), and self-directed learning (SDL). Dr. Sareesh held faculty positions at Melaka Manipal Medical College, Manipal University, Manipal where he taught human physiology to MBBS, BDS, and Paramedical students for about ten years. In this role, he held responsibilities as a curriculum integration committee member, Chief PBL coordinator, Curriculum development committee member, Mentorship scheme coordinator, Library coordinator, and Physiology coordinator for the BDS program.
Before joining the UCLan, he was an Associate Professor and Module Director for the Neurology and Behavioural Sciences module at the Ras Al Khaimah College of Medical Sciences, Ras Al Khaimah Medical and Health Sciences University, UAE, where he spent nearly six years. In this role, he held positions as, Director of the central animal house facility, Physiology coordinator for B Pharm/BDS courses, Curriculum committee member for Basic Sciences, University examination committee member, and Secretary to the research ethics committee.
He also guided more than forty students toward the completion of their research projects. Dr. Sareesh brings a high degree of vitality and a refreshing pedagogic approach to his job. A few examples of these innovations are "Student-Involved Demonstrations", "Role-Playing Lecturing", "PechaKucha Talks", "TAG-Game", and "Real-Life Scenario Blended Teaching". Many of these have been published in reputed peer-reviewed journals like Advances in Physiology Education and Teaching and Learning in Medicine. He has been consistently rated by students as one of the best teachers in the institutions that he has served. Dr. Sareesh has won the good teacher award twice in recognition of his teaching excellence and 1st prize for making the best audio-visual teaching material from Manipal University.
Dr. Sareesh has research expertise in varying fields like human physiology, neuroscience, bioelectromagnetics, and medical education. He has more than forty peer-reviewed research papers to his credit. Dr. Sareesh is a recipient of the prestigious university prize, the Dr. T.M.A. Pai Gold Medal for outstanding Medical Research four times at Manipal University. He also attained PhD guideship from Manipal University. He was bestowed the “Outstanding Researcher in Physiology” award by the Venus International Foundation, India. Dr. Sareesh is a recipient of research grants from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Ras Al Khaimah Medical and Health Sciences University, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and Manipal University.
He actively collaborates with international researchers from Finland, India, UAE, and Saudi Arabia. Dr. Sareesh is on the editorial board for EC Psychology and Psychiatry and on the Review Editorial Board for Frontiers in Public Health- Radiation and Health, where he regularly contributes scholarly reviews in addition to contributing as a reviewer for more than twenty-three international journals. He has contributed to reviewing research grant proposals for the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation (HFG), New York, USA, and National Science Center, Poland. He has been designated as an international examiner to adjudicate PhD theses and functioned as a judge for scientific events.
He is active in medical education research with a focus on innovative active teaching and learning methods. Dr. Sareesh has delivered more than eleven invited lectures and presented his research at more than ten international scientific meetings. Dr. Sareesh earned his MSc in Medical Physiology and PhD (Physiology- Neuroscience) degree from Manipal University, Manipal. Dr. Sareesh is a Life Member of the Indian Academy of Neurosciences (IAN) and a regular member of the American Physiological Society (APS). He resides in the UK with his wife and son. He has a keen interest in football.
