For each year, the rate is the percent of students attaining a residency out of all graduates or expected graduates in the year who were active applicants in the NRMP match in that year or who attained a residency outside the NRMP match in that year. For 2025-26, the first-time residency attainment rate is over 98%.
Raymond Colello, PhD, BSc
Professor, Physiology and Neuroscience
Dr. Raymond Colello is a Professor of Physiology and Neuroscience at the American University of the Caribbean (AUC), where he also serves as Co-Director of the fourth-semester Endocrinology and Reproduction module. Prior to joining AUC in 2020, Dr. Colello was a faculty member in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine. Over a distinguished 25-year tenure at VCU, he served as Course Director for Human Embryology and for Mind, Brain, and Behavior, and was the recipient of 18 teaching awards in recognition of his excellence in medical education.
Throughout his career, Dr. Colello has received research funding from a broad range of federal, state, and private agencies and has published more than 60 peer-reviewed research articles focused on neurodevelopment and the cellular biology of traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury. He has also contributed to the development of safer football helmets designed to reduce concussion risk. This work directly informed changes to the NFL’s helmet safety policy and was featured in national media, including NPR’s All Things Considered.
Dr. Colello’s research interests include concussion, glial biology, central nervous system neurogenesis, immunohistochemistry, imaging, cell culture, electron microscopy, and animal surgery. He earned his doctoral degree from the University of Oxford and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Zurich’s Brain Research Institute. Following his postdoctoral work, Dr. Colello returned to Oxford as a Lecturer and served as a don at Christ Church College.
