International Medical Student Applications

AUC welcomes applications from qualified candidates around the world. Our internationally recognized medical program offers a rigorous academic experience modeled after the US medical school curriculum. AUC students learn from knowledgeable and dedicated faculty members, and are able train in unique global settings. With transformative clinical opportunities in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and abroad, our students develop a complex understanding of different healthcare systems and diverse patient populations.

Students begin their journey to become a physician on our medical school campus located in St. Maarten. During their first two years, AUC physicians-in-training study the medical sciences and acquire early exposure to clinical care. In the third and fourth years of the medical education program, students complete core and elective clinical rotations at affiliated hospitals in the United States, and United Kingdom, and other sites.

Why apply to AUC as an international student?

An inclusive and diverse learning community. At AUC we take great pride in building a community of students, faculty, and staff who work together in a culture of mutual respect. AUC's diverse student population offers the chance to broaden your horizons and learn about different cultures or connect with fellow students with similar backgrounds and interests.

An opportunity to see a different type of healthcare system. Whether you choose to complete your clinical rotations in the United States or the United Kingdom, you can see an entirely different healthcare system in action. Given that the practice of medicine is becoming increasingly globalized, this experiential learning could help you add a valuable, broader perspective of how varying healthcare systems operate.

A true sense of the global healthcare experience. AUC students have ample opportunity to get hands-on experience in service learning and outreach through events like Community Action Day, where students engage with locals about ways to improve their lives and health.

Three start dates—start medical school when it's right for you. AUC enrolls students in January, May, and September, allowing flexibility for when you decide to apply to medical school.

What are the admissions requirements for international students?

Admission to AUC is competitive. We encourage you to review our medical school admissions requirements and consider whether AUC might be the right choice for your medical education. Below please find links to specific information for applicants from Canada and the UK. Other applicants are encouraged to speak with our international admissions team (see below) for specific requirements and information.

Currently we have specific information on our website for applicants from Canada and the United Kingdom. Please check back for additional information on other countries, or contact our international admissions team below.

Applying to AUC if you're from Canada

More than 10 percent of AUC’s student body is made up of Canadian students—a number that is expected to grow as our Canadian graduates continue earning residencies and fellowships in both the United States and Canada. Applying to AUC is a very similar process to applying to a medical school in Canada and our admissions requirements are largely the same. Though AUC does not participate in the Ontario Medical Schools Application Service (OMSAS), you can easily apply to AUC online.

  • CLINICAL OPPORTUNITIES IN CANADA

AUC’s clinical curriculum is comprised of 72 weeks of clinical rotations that include 42 weeks of core clerkships and 30 weeks of electives. Core clerkships are completed at affiliated clinical sites in the United States and/or United Kingdom. During your 4th year, you have the opportunity to engage in elective rotations at various sites in Canada, the United States and abroad.

Applying to AUC if you're from the United Kingdom

Unlike the UK, medical degrees from AUC are all at the graduate level, much like schools in the continental United States. AUC does not participate in the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), but you can easily fill out an application online.

The process for applying to AUC is functionally similar to how you’d apply to a UK medical school. AUC is currently accepting UKCAT scores in lieu of the MCAT. This opportunity is part of a new pilot program with limited seats in our May 2018 term. Once those seats are filled, UK applicants will need to meet our standard requirements, and must take the MCAT to qualify for medical school.

Note: If you need to request a replacement UKCAT score report, you'll need to complete this form. Please note that there is a £25 charge for replacement reports.

  • CLINICAL OPPORTUNITIES IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

After you complete two years of the medical sciences curriculum on AUC’s Caribbean campus on the scenic island of St. Maarten, you have the option of going right back home to the UK for your clinical rotations. View our affiliated UK hospital sites.

  • United Kingdom Scholarships

The UK Scholarship is a $5,000-per-semester award toward tuition, renewable for the duration of your studies at AUC (for a maximum of $47,500). This scholarship is awarded to qualified students from the United Kingdom who meet scholarship requirements. Other scholarships are also available. View them here.

  • CONTACT UNITED KINGDOM ADMISSIONS

  • READ ABOUT AUC ALUMNI FROM THE UK

Many AUC students, after successfully completing our program, elect to practice in the United Kingdom. Read their stories below.

    Abdo Sattout, MD

After passing the PLAB examination, he completed a basic surgical rotation before deciding on higher specialty training in Emergency Medicine. He is currently a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool.

    Sohaib Bukhari, MD

Dr. Bukhari was born on Japan and moved to Alaska at an early age. He graduated from University of Alaska, Anchorage with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. He went on to obtain a Graduate Certificate in Public Health from University of New England, Biddeford, Maine. It was here that he developed interest in medicine and public health. Subsequently, he attended medical school at the American University of the Caribbean. He did his core clinical rotations in the UK, elective rotations in New York, and graduated in 2008.
