Beatriz Finkel-Jimenez, PhD
Dr. Finkel-Jimenez received her B.S. in Bacteriology from the University of Antioquia in Medellin, Colombia in 1977. She worked for over three years in the Medical Micology Reference Laboratory at the Corporacion de Investigaciones Biologicas (CIB) in Medellin, before attending the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK, where she received a M.S. degree and subsequently a PhD in Microbiology- Immunology in 1987.
From 1988 to 1991 she was postdoctoral researcher at the University of Berne in Switzerland. In 1992, Dr. Finkel-Jimenez joined the virology vaccine group at the Berna Biotech where she led the In-Process Control laboratory. During this time, she also implemented the courses on immunology and virology for laboratory assistants in the Canton (State) of Berne, Switzerland.
In 1998, she returned to the US and accepted a position as a Research Associate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to study the pathogenesis and immune responses to B. dermatitidis. In 2004, Dr. Finkel-Jimenez joined the research group at the Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center at LSU-HSC in New Orleans where she directs the Immunology Core and works in collaboration with other researchers on projects of immunotherapies in cancer. In January 2012, she joined the American University of the Caribbean in St. Maarten as an Associate Professor in Medical Microbiology and Immunology.
