Qualifying for Medical School

AUC's Admissions Committee considers many factors when reviewing an applicant for consideration. Qualifying for medical school includes undergraduate performance and MCAT score, as well as intellectual and social maturity, critical judgment, adaptability, volunteer work, and life experiences, and graduate school performance (if applicable).

Evaluation for admission is conducted on an individual basis. We encourage all applicants to speak with a member of our admissions team to discuss their opportunity to attend AUC, including the competitiveness of their MCAT scores, GPA and other medical school requirements.

Bachelor's Degree

All applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university.

Medical Admissions Tests

  • Citizens or Permanent Residents of the US: MCAT
  • Non-US Citizens or Permanent Residents: MCAT, UCAT, NEET, or GAMSAT
  • India Citizens: Recommended to take NEET to practice in India. The NEET exam must be taken in English.
  • Please note that AUC will not consider MCAT scores or UCAT scores that are more than five years old.

Undergraduate Performance

AUC looks at both overall GPA and science GPA.

English Requirement

Required for non-native English speakers, or applicants who graduated from institutions in which the education is not delivered in English, or as requested by the Admissions Committee if deemed necessary to assess success at AUC. One of two exams may be taken:

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

AUC is accredited through 2021 by the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM, www.accredmed.org), which is the accreditor used by the country of St. Maarten. The United States Department of Education, via the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA), reviews the standards that countries use to accredit medical schools. The NCFMEA has determined that the ACCM's accreditation standards are comparable to those set by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), which accredits medical educational programs in the United States.
