What is MedOrigin?
MedOrigin is a supportive, 15-week, in-person course designed to provide students with the study techniques needed to learn foundational biomedical information and develop the essential academic skills and knowledge needed for success in the medical program.
Upon successful completion of MedOrigin, you'll confidently begin semester one coursework in the MD program with confidence. The program is offered on our Sint Maarten Campus.

MedOrigin Tuition and Fees
The cost of tuition and fees at AUC can be found on the school website. A minimum deposit of $1,000 is required before beginning MedOrigin. This course is worth 10 credits; students are considered full-time students.
New MedOrigin Scholarships
Scholarships and financial aid are available for those who apply and qualify.
Students who successfully advance to semester 1 in AUC’s MD program will be eligible for the MERP Success scholarship. For eligibility requirements, please visit AUC’s scholarship page. Students may also reach out to their admissions advisor for more information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, MedOrigin is a credit-bearing course and students attending may be eligible for federal student aid for those who apply and qualify. Please reach out to a student finance advisor for more information.
No. Canadian Provincial loans may not be used to cover MedOrigin tuition. Canadian students may apply for private loans through Canadian private lenders or a line of credit through a Canadian Bank.
After successfully completing MedOrigin, Canadian students matriculating to medical school at AUC may have options for federal and/or provincial funding in addition to a private loan or line of credit. More information can be found in the Canadian Financial Planning Guide.
Non-U.S. applicants pursuing the UK track are not eligible for the MedOrigin course as a conditional offer decision.
MedOrigin is graded as pass/fail. Students are evaluated based on attendance, engagement, quizzes, and assessments. MedOrigin grades will not be included in a student’s GPA, however, it will be included in an SAP calculation.
Students receiving a failing grade or withdrawing prior to completing MedOrigin will not advance to Semester 1. Student Care Advisors will work with students on their plan to depart Sint Maarten.
There is no remote option for the MedOrigin, it is delivered via in-person instruction on AUC’s Sint Maarten campus.
AUC on-campus housing is available for students attending MedOrigin on a first come, first served basis. More information on how to apply for on-campus and off-campus housing can be found in the AUC Acceptance Packet.
Yes, all MedOrigin students must apply for a St. Maarten Temporary Residency Permit. Some international students (non-US or non-Canadian citizens) may be required to obtain a St. Maarten entry visa. International students who are required to obtain a St. Maarten entry visa will be contacted in advance by AUC. Information on requirements for completing your visa are available in the AUC welcome packet.
New students will be contacted by their New Student Liaison (NSL) to discuss this opportunity. Students interested in enrolling in MedOrigin will need to email their acceptance to their NSL who will work with the student through the rest of their arrival checklist.
AUC’s tuition refund policy in the event of withdrawal is based on the period attended. Details on AUC’s tuition refund policy for students who have withdrawn can be found in the AUC Student Handbook and Course Catalog under “Withdrawal Tuition Refund Schedule.”
Tuition, fees and any additional cost for attending MedOrigin are not refundable in the event of a student failing.
