MedOrigin provides an early, structured introduction to AUC that helps students prepare for medical school and build a strong foundation for success. The program features interactive learning, personalized support, and an immersive experience designed to build confidence and mastery before progressing to Semester 1 of AUC’s MD program.

What is MedOrigin?

MedOrigin gives students with direct acceptance to AUC a little extra preparation for the rigors of med school. MedOrigin is a supportive, 15-week, in-person course designed to provide students with the study techniques needed to learn foundational biomedical information and develop the essential academic skills and knowledge needed for success in the medical program.

Upon successfully completing MedOrigin, students will progress to Semester 1 of AUC’s MD coursework. The course is offered on our Sint Maarten campus.

Course Structure

The goal of MedOrigin is to acclimate you for the rigors of medical school. Expect a demanding schedule as MedOrigin mirrors the intensity of the medical school curriculum.

  • Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (including lunch)
  • Evening Study: 2–3 hours of review or pre-reading
  • Assessments: Weekly quizzes, activities, and assignments

But remember – you are not alone! Students are well supported on their journey; the course provides access to 1:1 faculty consultations, Student Care Advisors, and Wellness Counselors all focused on helping you to succeed.

MedOrigin Tuition and Fees

The cost of tuition and fees at AUC can be found on the school website. A minimum deposit of $1,000 is required before beginning MedOrigin. This course is worth 10 credits; students are considered full-time students.

New MedOrigin Scholarships

 

Students who are accepted into MedOrigin and have met all requirements to secure enrollment through deposit or exemption (e.g., eligible partnership) for their place will be automatically considered for the AUC MedOrigin Award. For eligibility requirements, please visit AUC’s scholarship page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is financial aid available?

Yes, MedOrigin is a credit-bearing course and students attending may be eligible for federal student aid for those who apply and qualify. Please reach out to a student finance advisor for more information.

I am Canadian. Can I apply for Canadian Provincial loans to pay for MedOrigin?

No. Canadian Provincial loans may not be used to cover MedOrigin tuition. Canadian students may apply for private loans through Canadian private lenders or a line of credit through a Canadian Bank.

After successfully completing MedOrigin, Canadian students matriculating to medical school at AUC may have options for federal and/or provincial funding in addition to a private loan or line of credit. More information can be found in the Canadian Financial Planning Guide.

I am interested in the AUC U.K. track program. Am I eligible for the course?

Non-U.S. applicants pursuing the UK track are not eligible for the MedOrigin course.

How will MedOrigin be graded?

MedOrigin is graded as pass/fail. Students are evaluated based on attendance, engagement, quizzes, and assessments. MedOrigin grades will not be included in a student’s GPA, however, it will be included in an SAP calculation.

What happens if I don’t pass MedOrigin?

Students receiving a failing grade or withdrawing prior to completing MedOrigin will not advance to Semester 1. Student Care Advisors will work with students on their plan to depart Sint Maarten.

Is there a remote option for taking MedOrigin?

There is no remote option for the MedOrigin, it is delivered via in-person instruction on AUC’s Sint Maarten campus.

What housing is available for MedOrigin?

AUC on-campus housing is available for students attending MedOrigin on a first come, first served basis. More information on how to apply for on-campus and off-campus housing can be found in the AUC Acceptance Packet.

Do I need a visa to study in St. Maarten?

Yes, all MedOrigin students must apply for a St. Maarten Temporary Residency Permit. Some international students (non-US or non-Canadian citizens) may be required to obtain a St. Maarten entry visa. International students who are required to obtain a St. Maarten entry visa will be contacted in advance by AUC. Information on requirements for completing your visa are available in the AUC welcome packet.

How do students confirm their enrollment in MedOrigin?

New students will be contacted by their New Student Liaison (NSL) to discuss this opportunity. Students interested in enrolling in MedOrigin will need to email their acceptance to their NSL who will work with the student through the rest of their arrival checklist.

If I withdraw from the course, can I get a refund?

AUC’s tuition refund policy in the event of withdrawal is based on the period attended. Details on AUC’s tuition refund policy for students who have withdrawn can be found in the AUC Student Handbook and Course Catalog under “Withdrawal Tuition Refund Schedule.”

If I fail the course, can I get a refund?

Tuition, fees and any additional cost for attending MedOrigin are not refundable in the event of a student failing.
