Congratulations, Future Doctor!
We are so excited to welcome you to the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC).

We're Glad You're Here
We believe in collaboration, not competition. We believe that the complex healthcare landscape of tomorrow will require a different type of doctor — one who is globally minded and capable of working as part of a cohesive team to deliver empathetic, extraordinary care to a diverse patient population. And we are confident that that different type of doctor is you. Our community is precious to us and is only enhanced by how our students celebrate each other’s successes and continuously lift one another up. Faculty and staff share one common goal: to shape the new generation of physicians.

Apply For Financial Aid
American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine is committed to providing medical students with information to help them fund their education through student loan programs and medical school financial aid.

Find Housing
AUC students can live either on- or off-campus. AUC's Department of Housing maintains a database of off-campus housing options from which you can search based on criteria such as housing time, amenities, and price levels. Additionally, the Roommate Finder feature provides you with the ability to search for potential roommates among your fellow students.
AUC students can browse an online database, find roommates, contact landlords, and start the lease process here.

Meet Health Insurance Requirements
AUC requires all students to obtain global health insurance coverage through Nagico. Students on campus who do not have coverage as required by the government of St. Maarten will not receive a temporary residency permit. Students can contract with the insurance company during registration. Please be sure to keep your primary health insurance up to the first day of class to eliminate any disruption in coverage. Clinical students are required to have insurance in order to participate in rotations. These requirements are strictly enforced by AUC.
We have developed the Transition of Care Guide to make your move from your home to the island of Sint Maarten as smooth as possible. If you have previously received treatment for a mental health condition, there are several things you can do to continue to stay healthy throughout your journey in medical school. As you review this document, it’s also helpful to remember that many aspects can also be applied to other chronic or ongoing medical conditions.
Please take some time to review the guide, and don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly at sxmwellness@aucmed.edu if you have additional questions about wellness resources available to you during your journey at AUC.

"Going to AUC was one of the best decisions I’ve made. It’s a great environment with easy access to professors who are very knowledgeable about their field. I always felt comfortable going to office hours with questions, and a lot of my professors have stayed in touch even years later, just to check in and see how things are going.”

“At AUC, you’ll find people who are rooting for each other. If someone in your group of friends did well on an exam, you’d be happy for them, and at the same time, they’d be willing to lend a hand if you were struggling. It’s so important to have these kinds of people around you.”

“You hear about medical school being overly competitive, but I had the complete opposite experience at AUC. All the students came together to help each other succeed. I think that’s very important, especially in the field of medicine. You want your colleagues to champion each other and work as a team in the hospital.”
Carol Monis MD ‘20
Internal Medicine

“Be diligent and keep working at whatever task is at hand. If you’re having trouble, reach out to your classmates and those in the semesters above you. Uppers love to help answer questions. That’s the kind of environment AUC teaches you. We’ve all been through this, we’ve all had help from other people, and we want to pass it on.”
