AUC Student Testimonials
Our students share their experiences during their pursuit of their MDs at AUC and life after. From finding a place where they feel at home, to bonding with others forming deep and meaningful relationships, finding mentorship with their instructors, and what makes all the difference during their medical school journey from white coat to graduation, residency and beyond.
Hear From Our Current Students
AUC campus organizations are the place to expand your leadership experience, meet other students who have similar goals, and create lifelong professional relationships. I’m honored to be part of an organization doing important work to educate students about diversity, and health equity, while bringing Black students together. We hope students will join BMSA to plan amazing things for the future.

Expected Graduation 2025
I didn’t want to wait another year to try again, so I applied outside of Canada and the United States. I was able to do this after speaking with graduates of international medical schools and hearing their experiences. I had done an extensive amount of research before applying and going through with the process. After going through the process with AUC and based on the experience I had with the admission advisor I was assigned to and the interview process, I decided to matriculate at AUC.

One minute, [the physician] was seeing a newborn; the next minute she had a conversation with a 90-year-old patient who had cancer, and the next she saw a pregnant woman who had Lyme disease,” said Dr. Camarena. “I thought, ‘This is incredible – you get to do everything.’ From then on, it was family medicine for me.

I wish I could say that I was gifted and had a natural talent for medical knowledge or studying or taking exams. The real secret is surrounding yourself with the right people. Medical school is extremely hard and you need a good support system. Residency is no easier, and the support system remains crucial.

Bring your A game from day one. First impressions matter. Do not underestimate the power of mentorship. Seek mentors early, especially peers who have already completed the rotations. This was particularly helpful to me. If you want to make a lasting impression, invest your time and volunteer to take on extra tasks. Residents are overworked and will appreciate all the help they can get...unlike resident trainees and attending physicians, you’re paying to do your rotations. That will influence how you spend your time.

“Be diligent and keep working at whatever task is at hand. If you’re having trouble, reach out to your classmates and those in the semesters above you. Uppers love to help answer questions. That’s the kind of environment AUC teaches you. We’ve all been through this, we’ve all had help from other people, and we want to pass it on.”

“The opportunities and experiences that AUC offers are unprecedented. There are so many ways to get involved and to grow as a future physician not only academically, but also clinically. From the Student Government Association, to multiple specialty-specific student interest groups, Anatomy Teaching Assistance, and the American Medical Student Association(AMSA), AUC offers a 'beyond the books' experience for us.”

“When I was applying for residency, I wasn't sure that I had what it takes. Would I compare to U.S. graduates? Would I even match? All of these doubts melted away as soon as I started getting interview offers. Evertually I landed my dream program in internal medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI.”

When I became part of the AUC family, I felt a sense of pride, respect and appreciation towards one another, as we were able to relate to each other. These people became my best friends, and life long companions. This is the culture that AUC aspires to achieve. I learned how to become a leader, how to prioritize, take charge, be disciplined and to be ready for a crisis if immersed in one.The skills I use every day in Emergency Psychiatry.
