Why Start Med School in May?


If you need it, you could get some extra breathing room and time to prepare for the United States Medical Licensing Examination Step 2 CK and CS exams, as well as scheduled electives. And, in some cases you may be able to participate in Match, though this is contingent upon a variety of factors, such as whether you finish your foundations of medicine coursework on time or participate in a tracked clinical program.

Along with academic prerequisites, AUC requires test scores, a personal statement, letters of recommendation, transcripts, and a resume.

Science Coursework Prerequisites
  • General Biology 1 & 2: 1 year (8 credit hours), including laboratory
  • General Chemistry 1 & 2: 1 year (8 credit hours), including laboratory
  • Organic Chemistry 1 & 2: 1 year (8 credit hours), including laboratory. Biochemistry can be used to substitute for organic chemistry.
  • One semester (3 credit hours) of general physics, calculus, or statistics.
Bachelor's Degree

All applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university.

Medical Admissions Test
  • AUC requires scores for the Medical College Admission Test® (MCAT®) to be submitted by all U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and U.S. permanent residents prior to the interview.
  • Non-U.S. applicants are not required to submit MCAT scores and are encouraged to sit for the medical admissions exam available in their country of study. Waiver of a medical admissions exam is managed on an individual basis and at the sole discretion of the AUC Admissions Committee.

Please note that AUC will not consider MCAT, UCAT, and NEET scores that are more than five years old. For the GAMSAT, only scores that are less than two years old will be considered.

Undergraduate Performance

AUC considers both overall GPA and science GPA.

English Requirement

Required for non-native English speakers, or applicants who graduated from institutions in which the education is not delivered in English, or as requested by the Admissions Committee if deemed necessary to assess success at AUC. One of two exams may be taken:

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
