On April 8 and 9, all AUC students undertaking their core clinical clerkships at the university’s U.K.-affiliated hospital sites were invited to take part in an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). The inaugural event was hosted at AUC’s U.K. Track location at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston, U.K.
The 11-station, multispecialty OSCE gave students the opportunity to practice and demonstrate their clinical skills in a standardized medical scenario ― from communication, history taking and physical examination to clinical reasoning and medical knowledge. The style of this formative experience was tailored to mimic the OSCE used by applicants for the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS) on their path to practicing medicine in Canada.
With the overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants, plans are underway to host the event biannually.
