Clean Energy Cure: AUC School of Medicine’s Solar Boost Powers a Greener Future

AUC School of Medicine boosted its solar power with 170 new panels, adding to the 184 panels installed in 2023. That brings the total system’s capacity to about 370 kilowatt-hours per day to help power our Sint Maarten campus. The daily production is based on 4.2 hours per day average of solar power.

The impact so far: In one year, we avoided 55,000 kilograms of CO₂ emissions. That’s the same impact as planting 1,300 trees. The project also helped Adtalem hit its five-year sustainability goals and cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40.4% in 2024. Plus, the panels will continue to reduce emissions and deliver savings for years to come.

“This project is a meaningful step toward a climate-conscious campus with real financial benefits,” said Denis Thomas, senior facilities manager.

Built to withstand hurricanes, the panels also boost campus resilience. Real-time monitoring helps Facilities and IT teams track energy production and savings.

What’s next: AUC plans to expand renewable energy use as part of Adtalem’s broader commitment to environmental stewardship.
