Dr. Naira Chobanyan, oncologist and professor of clinical medicine at American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, spoke at a breast cancer awareness event on October 25 at Elrine Leslie Methodist Auditorium on the island of Sint Eustatius. The event was sponsored by The Golden Rock Cancer Awareness Foundation.
Dr. Chobanyan discussed 2024 data about breast cancer and spoke about underlying risk factors for breast cancer such as being a woman, having a family history of breast cancer, aging, gene changes, and obesity. She also addressed the importance of self-examination, breast cancer screening, adopting healthy habits, and discussing family history with your physician.
The event was well attended. The foundation holds additional events to raise awareness about breast cancer, including its annual Pink Walk.
