Dr. Julie Taylor, Chief Academic Officer and Senior Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs, attended the 10th Annual Summit on Breastfeeding Medicine in Washington, DC last week. The two-day meeting drew leaders from academia, medicine, government, and non-profit and public health organizations for discussions on newborn nutrition, workplace policies, medical education and practice, and breastfeeding advocacy.
Notable speakers included Dr. Janine Austin Clayton, Director of NIH Office of Research on Women’s Health, Dr. Karen Remley, Chief Executive Office and Executive Vice President of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Hal C. Lawrence III, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists, Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler of Washington state, and Dr. Sumi Sexton (pictured with Dr. Taylor), Editor-in-Chief of American Family Physician (AFP)—one of the most widely read journals in primary care.
Dr. Taylor is the Immediate Past-President of the Academy of Breastfeeding (ABM) regularly speaks at meetings and conferences focused on breastfeeding medicine and maternal and child health. Last month, she delivered a keynote speech at ABM’s European Meeting in the Netherlands on the role of medical education in advancing breastfeeding medicine.
