On July 6, Dr. Naira Chobanyan, oncologist and professor of clinical medicine at AUC, was a guest speaker at the 2nd Breast Cancer Support Group meeting organized by The Still Beautiful Foundation in collaboration with the Positive Foundation and the Elektralyets Foundation. The topic of the discussion was Coping with Breast Cancer.
During her presentation, Dr. Chobanyan addressed:
- Information on emotional responses at different periods of cancer crisis, starting from the diagnosis through treatment, remission, recurrence, palliative care, and survival
- Depression as an independent prognostic factor for breast cancer that impacts the overall survival rate of patients when properly diagnosed and treated
- Patient and caregiver strategies to cope with breast cancer successfully
- Compassion fatigue and burnout of healthcare providers and caregivers of breast cancer patients
Life coach Shirley Serbony facilitated the event and discussions, allowing each participant to express and share their experiences and insights amongst breast cancer survivors, caregivers, and health care providers.
