Faculty-student research collaborations are a staple at AUC, and we’re proud to acknowledge two recent publications from members of the AUC community.
Diagnosing Malignant Mesothelioma
In the November 8th issue of JSM Clinical Case Reports, Dr. Mohamed Aziz, Associate Professor of Pathology, was published alongside three AUC students: Ricardo Villasmil, Nicole Asher, and Amy Town. Their article, “Mesothelioma-Hiding Behind the ‘Community Border’” detailed the case of a 44-year old patient diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma, a rare and highly aggressive neoplasm.
Dr. Aziz has played a critical role in advancing student publications this year, having worked with numerous students on 10 different papers.
Standardizing ECG Training
In addition, Dr. Bill Hayden, Professor of Clinical Medicine, and third year student Jonathan Barney, were published in the Journal of Emergency Medical Services (JEMS) on November 27. Their article, “ECG Educational Standards for Prehospital Providers” provides a comprehensive review on the variances in ECG education and training among first responders, and the need for national ECG interpretation standards.
The article is currently a lead feature story on the JEMS website.
