AUC faculty and student interest groups hosted an interactive workshop aimed at enhancing hands-on clinical skills crucial in women’s health. The workshop included multiple rotating stations, each offering focused, practical training with guidance from faculty and senior students.
Dr. Chobanyan, an oncologist and clinical medicine professor, led the breast examination station. Here, students practiced comprehensive clinical breast exams, learning proper inspection and palpation techniques, and how to identify abnormal or concerning findings. Dr. Chobanyan also discussed signs and symptoms of breast cancer, the most common cancer in women.
Another station focused on Foley catheter insertion. Students mentored by senior peers, discussed indications, contraindications, and potential complications of the procedure. They also took part in a live birth simulation led by Dr. Villagomez, gaining hands-on experience with labor progression, delivery mechanics, and teamwork in obstetric scenarios.
In partnership, the OB/GYN and Pathology Interest Groups students performed pap smears on anatomical models. This station reinforced correct sampling techniques, specimen handling, and interpretation of common cervical pathology.
Overall, the workshop offered an immersive, skill-centered learning experience that integrated clinical practice with foundational pathology. This approach helped students develop confidence and competence for their clinical rotations.
