When Priya Raju, Class of ’22, opened her Match Day email to see the Child Neurology Residency Program at the University of North Carolina, it fulfilled a dream that began before she was even born.

Fifth-semester student American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) Shelby Hamilton, Class of ’25, learned about Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) early when she began puberty at age 10.

Born and raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin, American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) student Nyla Shah, Class of ’26, spent most of the first six years of her life watching her younger sister slowly die of liver disease.

On February 11, 2023, American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC Med) hosted its Spring 2023 White Coat Ceremony, where over 140 first semester students were welcomed as the newest physicians-in-training of the class of 2027.

Second-year American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) student Chyrisha Rucker has always been guided by her mother's spirit. Losing her mother to breast cancer as a teenager, she felt her presence when she became a doula — and still feels her presence today. "I felt like my own mother was guiding me as I witnessed mothers and their babies meeting for the first time."

New medical students look forward to their first medical school rite of passage with excitement—the White Coat Ceremony. Wearing their first white coat is the symbol of beginning their careers as future physicians.

The Future You program brought Sint Maarten adolescents together with AUC faculty and students to learn about careers in medicine and academics, while setting professional goals through interactive activities.

The final Community Action Day of the year took place on Saturday, November 26, with hundreds of AUC students and colleagues collaborating with community partners to drive forward more than a dozen service projects in health, environmental awareness, education and more.

This past weekend, AUC School of Medicine in collaboration with the Positive Foundation and The Ministry of Public Health, Social Development, and Labor, hosted a successful free breast screening event in Philipsburg. The October 22 event was the second of three events this year, with the final event for 2022 scheduled for November 26.
