Matching Success: AUC Students Attainment Rate

Each year, hundreds of AUC  graduates receive the news of matching at leading hospitals across the United States and Canada. AUC achieved an Above 97% 3-year first-time residency attainment rate*. 


*The 3-year first-time residency attainment rate is the weighted average of the 2023-24, through 2025-26 academic years. For each year, the rate is the percent of students attaining a residency out of all graduates or expected graduates in the year who were active applicants in the NRMP match in that year or who attained a residency outside the NRMP match in that year. For 2025-26, the first-time residency attainment rate is over 98%.

Monday

All applicants will be informed at 10 a.m. ET whether they’ve been placed in a residency program. They won’t know where they’ll be training — only that they’ve been accepted to a program. Students will learn where they will receive training on Friday of Match Week.

What happens if you don't match to a residency program?

Applicants who haven't been placed into a residency program are eligible for the Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program® (SOAP®), a matching process that takes place between Monday and Thursday of Match Week. During SOAP, students can apply to residency programs with unfilled positions. More about SOAP and how it works can be found here.

Match Week ends on the third Friday of March with Match Day, when medical students who place into residency find out where they have placed at noon ET.

What Is The Importance of 
Match Day?

Medical school graduates are not licensed to practice independently until they complete additional training in a residency program, which typically lasts between three and seven years depending on the specialty. 

What is The Match?

In the United States, The Match is managed by the National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®), the main system used to place graduating medical students into residency programs.
