In addition to AUC's yoga classes at the fitness center, student organizations often host their own yoga events. The Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN) held a sunset yoga session at Mullet Bay Beach earlier this year to help promote mental health and healthy lifestyles.
AUC offers many exercise classes at the fitness center on campus. One of the most popular is the yoga class, and it’s easy to see why. The class is guided by a great instructor who greets all the students as we walk in, and tells us that if we have any questions or need help with a position, to always ask.
I found the class to be really helpful with de-stressing, as well as helping my body feel relaxed. As a student I find my body and muscles get very tense from all of the studying that comes with being a medical student. It was a great feeling to have all the tension be released from my body through the yoga class.
Besides helping me feel calm, the class was taught at a pace that all students could keep up with. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or a pro, this class is enjoyable for all levels. For the students who were beginners, the teacher came over to them throughout the class and helped them with the positions. For the pros, the teacher always offered a way to make the yoga positions more of a challenge. And for the intermediates like myself, the teacher was happy to show us how to properly do each position. I even learned yoga positions I’d never done before. It was a great class, and it really helped me improve my yoga skills.
I highly recommend that every student try out the yoga class. The class is not just another exercise class, but a great way to really learn how to relax and to connect with oneself. As a student there are many times when you’ll feel stressed, and yoga can really help with learning how to control stress levels, and how to be calm. So come check out the yoga class which is offered at the AUC gym, twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays.
